We are a group from around the world working together to advance precision approaches in disease prevention and therapy. Our research aim is to understand biochemical mechanisms governing bioactive properties of chemicals that humans are exposed to from food, the environment or medication. Student researchers are pursuing PhD, masters, or bachelors degrees, and our staff includes postdoctoral researchers, senior scientists, technical and administrative co-workers. We are part of the Institute Food, Nutrition and Health at the Department of Health Sciences and Technology at the ETH Zurich.
The goal of our research is to understand how chemicals-such as diet-derived natural products or derivatives-impact disease incidence and treatment. Researchers in the lab investigate relationships between chemical structure, biotransformation and cellular responses by experimental approaches involving organic chemistry, analytical chemistry and biochemistry. Knowledge regarding molecular mechanisms o f toxicity that will be gained from this research is expected to contribute to improved human health and disease prevention strategies.
The lab is led by Professor Shana J. Sturla since November 2009, and comprised of people from around the world. Student researchers are pursuing PhD, masters, or bachelors degrees, and our staff includes postdoctoral researchers, senior scientists, technical and administrative co-workers. Our group is part of the Institute Food, Nutrition and Health at the Department of Health Sciences and Technology at the ETH Zurich.
